08:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Morgan's Multi Accessibility Center
5210 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio, TX, USA
What is the Event?
The Event is our Annual Self-Determination Camp on June 28, 2025. It will be at the Multi-Assistance Center in San Antonio, Texas. We will have guest speakers, activity room for the kids, and a host of vendors to start or close a gap for services. After the lessons families will enjoy Lunch and spend their time connecting with other families at Morgan’s Wonderland. Self-Determination is defined as the process by which a person control their own life. It is built behind motivation of those living with some type of disability. It is listed as a component on the Expanded Core Curriculum for children who are visually impaired and is an overall theory for special education a whole. Our children and young adults need ongoing support with self-knowledge, self-advocacy & empowerment, assertiveness, informal decision making, problem solving & goal setting, and self-regulated behavior. This camp will provide the foundation for further deliverables on these skills.
What do we hope to accomplish?
It is our prayer that families will network with each other and gain lifelong friendships in their community. Families with children with disabilities often feel like they need to move away and feel less connected to their community and isolated in their homes. With the vendor contributions and Sponsorships we will be able to extend our reach to support families and prevent them from getting lost in the system. This event will encourage socialization and provide resources they can take with them, as well as, close much needed gaps from endless searching. We will be informing parents about the 6 components of self-determination through a solution we like to call an ecosystem of change.
